Othering

We’re living at a time where significant change is overdue, particularly if we are to deal with what I would see as our most significant global challenges: climate change; staggering levels of inequality, and access to resources like energy, food, water and vaccines.

And, when you think about the typical news agenda, we don’t really hear enough about these challenges. Instead we hear endlessly about things that divide us into tribes - for example, Brexit. Nationalism. Political parties. The culture wars. Fear of other religions.

This agenda is not accidental. It is pursued in service of the status quo - the power of capital and the power of the media are deployed to distract and prevent us reaching the consensus view that yes, we need to enact substantive change.

And in the most powerful country in the world, the two main political parties seem unable to agree on the foundation of all discussion and decision making: what is, in fact, true.

Lyrically, Othering calls this out, and calls for a return to truth, consensus and action to mitigate the real challenges we face. Musically, Oasis does Marc Bolan is where this one ended up, with Lizard David providing the guitar fireworks.
